As many of you know, our plan was to restart production of Roald Dahl's Matilda, the Musical in the next couple weeks. Based on the feedback, most of the cast and crew also want to find a way to bring our community back together to share in the production of live theatre.
Unfortunately, we need to keep the lights from going up and hold the curtain a bit longer. After much thought and debate, the Sun Prairie Civic Theatre Board of Directors unanimously decided it was in everyone's best interest to postpone the return to rehearsals and performances.
We recognize there's no easy answer about how to proceed. However, what fall will look like in our schools and city remains uncertain. And, we simply can't ask our community of artists, actors, builders to spend months pouring their hearts into a show only to yank it away. The risk of a last-minute cancellation remains high. And, today, the heartbreak of postponement outweighs the benefits of moving forward.
At this time, SPCT plans to return to the stage in with a production of I Hate Hamlet. And, the production of Matilda, the Musical for performances in spring 2021. Based on the current Forward Dane plan, audiences will remain restricted to a maximum of 100 attendees until the county moves out of Phase 3.
Streaming rights are not offered for productions of Matilda. It's our hope moving the show to the spring will provide the best opportunity to gather as a large group on stage and perform this musical to more than 100 people at a time.
These changes impact other shows in the current schedule. As a result, Board members will be working with the respective directors to explore options before announcing any changes. And, as the last few months have proved, outside factors may interfere. We'll continue to adjust plans if needed.

The show will go on. We will return to building community through the shared experience of live theatre. It's just going to take a little bit longer than we hoped. While the stage may be dark, this is something we can all celebrate. The Sun Prairie Civic Theatre turns 50 in October. We hope you'll join us online and celebrate this milestone anniversary as we get closer to the day.
Thank you for you commitment to and continued belief in the arts,
